Mexico City, Mexico

The city currently known as Mexico City was created by the Mexica people, later known as the Aztecs, in 1325. The old Mexica city is now referred to as Tenochtitlan.  I'm standing on the street which leads into the centre of the city - Templo Mayor, Presidential Palace.

Mexico City is served by the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo, a 225.9 km metro system, which is the largest in Latin America.  The metro is one of the busiest in the world transporting approximately 4.5 million people every day, surpassed only by subway lines in Moscow (7.5 million), Tokyo (5.9 million), and New York City (5.1 million).

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is the largest university on the continent, with more than 300,000 students.
